Dr. Lewis Mehl-MadronaSee Descriptions of Lewis's Lectures, Workshops, and Private Consultations Dr. Lewis Mehl-Madrona is a board certified family physician, geriatrician, and psychiatrist. He is a graduate of Stanford University School of Medicine and is currently affiliated with the Center for Biofield Science at the University of Arizona and the College of Public Health. Being of dual backgrounds, Anglo (Scotch and French) and Native (Cherokee and Lakota), he was born into the daunting task of integrating these cultures and their teachings into a synthetic whole that respects both sides. His book, Coyote Medicine: Lessons for Healing from Native America, tells the story of his journey to find integration, personally and professionally. In his second book, Coyote Healing: Miracles of Native Medicine, he extends this work further to describe the states of mind in which people find miraculous cures while working with Native American healers. He shares his interest in how people transform and find exceptional results. In his third book (due November, 2004), Coyote Wisdom, he describes how Native healers use stories to inspire the sick to believe in the possibility of wellness. Stories form the blueprint for learning how to live in the present and to let go of past and future, sometimes including the illness. Dr. Madrona is currently coordinating studies of energy healing and recovery from cardiothoracic surgery and of the effects of ceremonial prayer on the brain waves of the person receiving the prayer.
